HEIDENHAIN ND280 & ND287: The Heidenhain ND280 and ND287 Single Axis machine tool digital readouts can except 1Vpp, 11 Micro Amp, and EnDat incremental and absolute encoder inputs. These Heidenhain digital readouts are well suited for data logging and gauging applications!
HEIDENHAIN ND522 & ND523: The Heidenhain ND522 and ND523 are a simple two or three axis machine tool digital readout commonly used on manual machine tools retrofitted with Heidenhain Linear Encoders. These Heidenhain readouts will only except TTL signal inputs.
HEIDENHAIN ND780: The Heidenhain ND780 is a more advanced version of the Heidenhain ND500 series with up to three axis control and offers more programming abilities commonly used in production type work. The ND780 has switching I/O and communication abilities along with being able to except 1Vpp and 11 Micro Amp signal inputs.
HEIDENHAIN PT880: The Heidenhain PT880 or POSITIP 880 is one of the most versatile digital readouts on the market! It has numerous programming and data logging features along with PLC communication abilities. This Heidenhain digital readout has inputs for up to six encoders with 1Vpp, 11 Micro Amp, and EnDat signal inputs.
The Heidenhain Linear Encoder LS187 is the new style replacement to the old style Heidenhain LS186 Linear Encoders. Along with the Heidenhain LS186, the Heidenhain Encoder LS486 is replaced by the new style Heidenhain LS487 SlimLine Linear Encoders. We also carry Heidenhain encoder adapter cables to make switching out your old LS 186 and LS 486 seamless!
Well in theory the Heidenhain Rotary Encoders and Angle Ancoders are the same. What makes these Heidenhain Encoders different is how they are used! For example lets compare the Heidenhain ROD 426 Rotary Encoder with the Heidenhain ROD 220 Angle Encoder. To start you will find that physical size and shaft layouts are very similar. Both of these Heidenhain Encoders can be used to monitor motor speed and velocity along with positioning on a rotary axis. Where you start to find differences in the Heidenhain ROD 426 vs. the Heidenhain ROD 220 is in the line counts (Accuracy) and the traverse speeds. The Heidenhain Rotary Encoders including the ROD 426 top out at 5,000 line counts in a 360 degree revolution, whereas the Heidenhain Angle Encoders can reach all the way to 360,000 pulses per revolution! So what the main difference comes down to is how accurate do you need your application to be? Heidenhain Rotary Encoders and Heidenhain Angle Encoders can be found in both incremental and Absolute with multiple signal outputs to fit your applications.
The simple answer is really nothing. The term Linear Encoder actually encompasses Glass Scales, which is really just what the material in which the graduations are placed on. Some other forms of Linear Encoder styles are Steel Tape, and Magnetic Encoders. In the world of precision measurement one of our biggest enemies is thermal expansion. Steel Tape scales tend to be the most susceptible to this, while Glass Scales are the least. This is why most higher quality Linear Encoders are made using glass. Heidenhain produces their own zero expansion glass so with their Linear Encoders thermal is none existent are at least un-recognizable.
